What is Ventura County Legal Aid?
Ventura County Legal Aid, Inc. (“VCLA”) provides pro bono (free) legal advice to residents of Ventura County who qualify based on their income through a network of volunteer lawyers who are members of the Ventura County Bar Association. VCLA provides this free legal assistance by matching up those we serve with volunteer attorneys who will provide the service for free. In addition, beginning February 2, 2016, VCLA will begin operating a free legal clinic, during which volunteer lawyers will provide individualized free legal advice on a first-come, first-serve basis in a number of areas, including family law, collections law, expungement of criminal convictions and general legal questions.
I need legal help. Can VCLA assist me?
You may be eligible for free legal services through VCLA if you have a case or legal problem in Ventura County that is within our program priorities and your income falls within our guidelines. VCLA does not assist with criminal matters (other than through the expungement section of the free legal clinic) or fee-generating cases (such as suing for personal injury).
How do I contact VCLA?
If you seek legal help and your income is low, call VCLA at: 805-650-7592, or for more information go to www.vclegalaid.org. Intake appointments are conducted Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. During the intake appointment, the Intake Coordinator will ask you several questions to determine whether we can assist you. If we cannot assist you, we will do our best to refer you to someone who can.
VCLA does not take walk-ins other than during clinic hours, which are on the first and third Tuesday of the month when Ventura public schools are in session. When in session, the clinic is held on the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Ventura County Law Library from 4 to 7 p.m.
I am a legal professional and would like to contribute time or make a donation to VCLA.
VCLA is always in need of legal professionals to volunteer and help support our organization. Please see www.vclegalaid.org to sign up to volunteer or click here.
